Wide Leather Rapier Scabbard - Brown

$100.00

These scabbards are made for me by Universal Swords. They are built from heavy leather with a hand-stitched seam. They are available with yellow brass or white brass fittings. They are moderately rigid, but flex a bit when empty.

They were designed to fit a rapier blade approximately 1” wide and .25” thick at the ricasso and up to 39” long. This includes many swords I’ve made with wider Hanwei blunt rapier blades, as well as Darkwood DA2 blades, Malleus Martialis Narrow Sidesword blades, and many 1/4” aluminum rapier blades.

I can ship this scabbard at its full length with the fittings glued on, or I can send it with loose fittings so you can trim it for a shorter blade. It’s always best to trim it from the throat-end, not from the tip.

If you plan to trim it and glue the fittings yourself, I recommend using 5-minute epoxy. Apply a small amount of glue to the inside of the metal fitting (not to the leather itself), and then immediately slide on the fitting so it’s fully seated. Have a few q-tips handy in case some of the glue squeezes out into the mouth of the scabbard. You can easily wipe out any glue with a couple swipes of a q-tip. Rubbing alcohol is good for cleaning up any excess epoxy residue, but be careful not to spoil the finish on the leather. Don’t stick a sword in until the glue is fully dry.
