Clemens Wopper Rapier 1 -- [SHARP]
Clemens Wopper Rapier 1 -- [SHARP]
This rapier is based on a piece by early 17th century German sword-maker Clemens Wopper which is on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
My version skips the minute surface gilding on the original, but otherwise is a fairly faithful re-creation.
The hilt is formed of delicate hexagonal bars with large twisted ball details with the recesses picked out in faux-gilding. The pommel is partially hollow and features the same design motif. It secures with a pommel nut.
Both guard and pommel are laser sintered 316L Stainless steel, blackened to a dark finish.
The sharp 39” blade by Nicholas Cochiolo features a complex triple-fullered forte that shifts to a diamond section blade for the remainder of the length. It’s forged from 80CRV2 steel.
The spiral carved grip is solid PETG wrapped in brass wire.
Overall weight is 2.4 lbs, and the POB is +4.75" in front of the guard. The sword is 45" long overall.
The scabbard is black leather with brass fittings.
