Scottish Basket Hilt 2
Scottish Basket Hilt 2
My second go at Scottish Basket-Hilted sword, this one with a single edge backsword blade. The hilt is a combination of several specific hilts, so I hesitate to categorize it as a particular style.
The hilt is all steel with a PETG grip covered in red pebbled leather and wound with twisted brass wire.
It’s mounted with a 31” single edged blade that started life as a H/T Viking Blunt. I reground it in the Highland tradition of taking a two edged blade you have laying around and cutting it down to a single edged blade for a more nimble sword. The blade has a 4” false edge at the tip. This blade can be made either sharp or blunt. If you want it sharp, I’ll redo the edge grind. If you need a blunt, I’ll round the factory square edge and make it safe for blade-on-blade contact.
The grip is 4” long and the pommel is threaded 3/8-16.
