Scottish Basket Hilt 9

$0.00

This “Glasgow” style basket hilt is loosely based on an original circa 1740 attributed to the workshop of John Simpson the Younger (see final picture). The steel hilt has deeply grooved bars. The grip is wrapped in maroon leather with a copper and brass wire twist secured with floral-etched brass ferrules.

The triple-fullered blade came off a Windlass piece, as did the black leather scabbard. I spent quite a bit of time regrinding the blade to thin out the last 2/3rds of the blade to improve its handling. It’s currently “reenactment blunt” (i.e. not sharp, but too thin for stage fighting). It could easily get sharpened if that’s what you are looking for.

The hilt secures with a pommel nut threaded 6x1mm.

Weight: 3.4 lbs
Overall Length: 39.5”
Blade Length: 33.5
POB: +4” from base of blade
