Stirling Basket Hilt 1 [SHARP]

This sword is based on an antique piece c.1740 attributed to Walter Allen of Stirling that’s in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago.

The faceplate of the hilt has “football” or vesica shaped apertures and the side bars and wrist guards are fluted and cut with lines. The grip is wrapped in red stingray skin with brass ferrules and wound with brass and steel wire.

The sharp blade is single edged with a sharp back edge and single fuller. It’s from a Hanwei Cromwell sword, which has been de-antiqued. It’s a nice lightweight backsword blade.

The hilt secures with a pommel nut threaded 6x1mm.
