Stirling Basket Hilt 2
Stirling Basket Hilt 2
This sword is based on an antique piece c.1740 attributed to Walter Allen of Stirling that’s in the collection of the National Museum of Scotland.
The faceplate of the hilt has heart shaped apertures and the side bars and wrist guards are shaped with undulating filework. The grip is wrapped in natural green stingray skin with brass ferrules and wound with brass and steel wire.
The triple fullered blade is made by Fulvio Del Tin, but I’ve shortened it and narrowed the profile to create an easier-handling blade. It’s currently blunt with a 1mm edge, although it could be sharpened.
The hilt secures with a pommel nut threaded 6x1mm.
Weight: 3.6 lbs
Overall Length: 39.5”
Blade Length: 32.5”
POB: +3” from base of blade
The scabbard is black leather over fiberglass core. It came from a Hanwei piece, but has been re-covered in veg-tan leather and the fittings have been modified to add a stud.
