Shell Hilt Rapier

$0.00

This rapier is based on a 17th century original auctioned through Czerney's. Their description was as follows:

A FINE RAPIER

Straight, double-edged blade of lozenge section, long and double grooves at the first part, featuring the signature "IL SPADARO" and "DE SCACCHI"; iron hilt with double, shell-shaped valve, "S"-quillons and loop-guard pierced and carved at the edges; guard ring and guard at the center with knots and flames; oval pommel with oblique grooves. Wooden grip with iron wire binding and moor's heads.

Brescia, circa 1600
length 116 cm.

I've tried to replicate the hilt of this piece as closely as I can.

It is currently mounted with a 38" hollow-ground blunt blade. The blade was custom made by Dynamo Lugansk to my specifications, and then hollow ground by me to bring the weight down further. It is 1.25" wide just above the guard, and 8mm thick at the thickest point (also just above the guard).  The edges are approximately 1.5mm thick.

The grip is ABS plastic wrapped in wire. The pommel is keyed to the tang to prevent rotation and is held on with a recessed pommel nut, threaded 6x1mm.

The shell is attached to the hilt with screws, and meets but is not attached to the side ring.  If you want these connections welded, just let me know.

Overall weight is 2.75 lbs, and the POB is about 2" in front of the guard. Blade is 38.5" long. The sword is 45" long overall.

THE LATER PICTURES SHOW A THINNER HANWEI BLUNT BLADE. THE STATS WITH THAT BLADE ARE AS FOLLOWS:

Overall weight is 2.67 lbs, and the POB is about 1.5" in front of the guard. The sword is ??" long overall.

If you like this hilt and are interested in having it mounted with a different blade, please contact me..
