Cutout Hilt Sidesword [SHARP]
Cutout Hilt Sidesword [SHARP]
For this sword I borrowed the guard design from one antique weapon and the pommel from another and combined them on a wide, military-style rapier/sidesword blade. The end result is quite pleasing in the hand. The pommel doesn’t have a lot of mass, but the relatively short blade and thumb ring keep it quite maneuverable.
The extensively pierced 2-ring guard is steel with a slightly unusual counterguard arrangement. The pommel is keyed to the tang and secures with a pommel nut threaded 6x1mm. Grip is steel wire over solid PETG with steel turks head knots.
The blade is a modified Hanwei/Tinker Bastard Sharp etched with imagery from Aubrey Beardsley’s Le Morte D’Arthur
The sword is 41.5" overall with a 35" blade. It weighs 2.55 lbs and balances about 5.75" in front of the quillion block.
