HEMA Sidesword A -- Single Ring
HEMA Sidesword A -- Single Ring
These Sideswords were designed with HEMA durability in mind. I modified an earlier hilt design to make things more robust...slightly longer quillions (9"), less shaping to increase the cross-sectional area of the quillions (so they'll be less prone to bending under heavy blows).
This version has a single side ring. This same hilt is also available without a side ring, or with double side rings.
The blade is a heavily modified Hanwei Practice Rapier blades. I've had good feedback on these--it's a 43" blade that's shortened to 38" from both ends, producing a flexible but fairly stiff blade. The tang extends all the way through the pommel and secures with a 6mm pommel nut, so the stress point when your pommel gets struck is beefy and unthreaded. The blade can be shortened to whatever your preferred length at no extra charge.
The grip is solid PETG covered in pebbled red leather.
This is available with an extra backup blade, so you have a spare to swap in if you experience a blade break during competition.
