English Hilt Rapier & Dagger 2
English Hilt Rapier & Dagger 2
This is my second take on a 17th century English rapier hilt in the Wallace Collection, A597, with some details borrowed from A596. I've made a matching dagger to keep it company.
The rapier is mounted with a 37.5" blunt blade with a fullered ricasso. It weighs 2.6 lbs. and balances 1" in front of the hilt. Overall length is 44".
The dagger blade is 12" long with blunted edges. Overall length is 18".
The hilts and pommels of both weapons are blued steel with decorative etching. The etched designs are bare polished steel to contrast with the dark foreground. The grips are hardwood wrapped in black and silver steel wire with turk’s head knots. The pommels are threaded 6mm metric.
[NOTE: These swords got a facelift from their owner who filled in the etching with faux gilding. They came back to me for new scabbards with bronze hardware from Todd’s Stuff. Those are the last set of pictures. A very nice look I think. I also made an etched purse frame to match the weapons. The customer completed the purse.]
