English Hilt Rapier & Dagger 3
English Hilt Rapier & Dagger 3
This is my third take on a 17th century English rapier hilt in the Wallace Collection, A597, with some details borrowed from A596. I've made a matching dagger to keep it company.
The rapier is mounted with a slender 37" sharp Hanwei rapier blade. It weighs 2.2 lbs. and balances 2.75" in front of the quillions. Overall length is 43". Though quite large, the pommel is partially hollow to reduce weight and keep the balance within acceptable parameters.
The dagger blade is 11.5" long, also sharp. Overall length is 17" and weighs just under 1 lb.
The hilts and pommels of both weapons are blued steel with decorative etching. The etched designs have been faux gilded with bronze powder. The grips are solid PETG wrapped in black and bronze wire with turk’s head knots. The pommels are threaded 6mm metric.
Both weapons have black leather-covered scabbards with flexible cores and brass fittings.
