Schiavona 14 [HEMA]
Schiavona 14 [HEMA]
This sword is based on an antique piece that Bill Grandy very generously lent me so that I could take measurements and make a pattern. Bill has a terrific writeup on his antique HERE, along with a ton of high quality photos.
My replica is a bit bigger in the guard than the antique to accommodate a padded HEMA glove, and also sports a slightly heavier pommel to balance the Malleus Martialis blade (their Early Sidesword blade). The blade on the antique is extremely thin and lightweight.
The hilt is mild steel with a thumb ring, as per the original. The carved grip is wrapped in purple leather and brass wire. The pommel is cast brass.
The hilt secures with a pommel nut threaded 6x1mm
