Schiavona 2 & Parrying Dagger
Schiavona 2 & Parrying Dagger
This sword is based on an antique piece that Bill Grandy very generously lent me so that I could take measurements and make a pattern. Bill has a terrific writeup on his antique HERE, along with a ton of high quality photos.
My replica is a little bit bigger in the guard than the antique and I’ve eliminated the thumb ring at the customers request to enable rapier-style handling with the forefinger looped over the guard. It’s mounted with a modified Hanwei/Tinker Blunt bastard sword blade.
The hilt is all mild steel. The grip is wrapped in blue stingray skin and brass wire. The pommel is 3D printed in bronze infused stainless steel plated with gold with a customized bear paw design.
The hilt secures with a pommel nut threaded 8x1.25mm.
Weight: 3.2 lbs
Overall Length: 40”
Blade Length: 33.5”
POB: +4” from base of blade
The accompanying dagger is inspired by a Lowland Scottish parrying dagger, but with the knuckle guard details changed to mirror the shapes of the sword hilt. Blade is 12” long and single edged. Grip matches the Schiavona, although the pommel does not. Hilt secures with a pommel nut threaded 6mm metric. Weight is 1.5 lbs.
